How to Practice Self-Compassion

Why is Self-Compassion Essential?

It can be easy to get overwhelmed over not being able to cope with this new reality we’ve found ourselves in.

However, now more than ever, we need to be a little kinder to ourselves. In fact, self-compassion is treating yourself the way you would treat someone you care about who is having a hard time. Self-compassion increases our ability to cope with tough situations, like COVID-19, and enhances resiliency.

Additionally, it also increases our motivation to get things done, and even improves immune function… something we’re all anxious about right now. Here is an infographic about how to practice compassion, based on Dr. Kristen Neff‘s work on the topic.

Practicing Self-Compassion

Additionally,  feelings of self-doubt and self-critical thoughts can come easily, especially at stressful moments. You may easily forget or disregard your accomplishments when overwhelmed by your critical self.

By learning how to create a compassionate and supportive message we can shift the focus. We can then access a safe and positive space in our minds.  Using techniques that help cultivate self-compassion, we can learn how to move out of the bubble of self-criticism towards a more accepting and harmonious relationship with yourself.
